IMPORTING YOUR RACE CAR AND SERVICE VEHICLES
In order to comply with the necessary steps regarding the temporary import permits and customs formalities, the Federation of Mexican Auto Sports (FEMADAC) will offer you some guidelines about how to obtain the documents.
To inter your vehicles into Mexico (Including the race car, transport truck, and trailer), you are required by Iaw to hire a custom broker/agent and obtain from FEMADAC the temporary import permit, in order for the Customs Agent to issue the summary entry document. This is true if your truck weighs over 10,000 lbs. or you are bringing a significant amount of equipment, spare parts, or tires into the country. (lf you have only a SUV, small trailer, and not many spares, you may a obtain tourist permit for you vehicles at the border for $29.50 of some Mexican consulates for $35.00 if separate owners of the race car and service truck are present with their tourist visa and the title or registration for the vehicles).
The temporary import permit obtained with the assistance of a customs broker/agent allows the driver to import the race car, a certain amount of tools, spare parts, and extra tires. We recommend that you not try to import a huge amount of equipment across the border. Try to limit it to want you really think you will need. Your broker’s fee will be determined in part on the value of what you bring across the border.
It is also imperative that you stop al the broker’s office in Nuevo Laredo before you leave the country after the race. The broker must cancel your permit, so he will not be subject to financial penalties.
OBTAINING THE PERMIT
The temporary import permit is issued and authorized by FEMADAC. To obtain this permit, you must send them a clear copy of the certificate of ownership of the vehicle, including license plates numbers and registration, as well as a picture of the vehicles.
As noted above, it is necessary to apply for the rally license issued by FEMADAC. You should send a photo of you and your co-driver when you send in the application for the rally license.
The Office of La Carrera Panamericana and the Federation of Mexican Auto Sports both welcome you lo this year’s edition of the la “Carrera Panamericana.” However, we remind you that it is IOO% your responsibility important your vehicles into Mexico to properly.
Finally, we recommend that you come across the border at Laredo, Texas. The Mexican customs authorities in Nuevo Laredo are familiar with La Carrera Panamericana and have been very helpful in the past.
You should send yow request for the temporary import document at least fifteen days before you plan to cross the border and earlier it possible. It takes around 8 to 10 work days to complete the process. We suggest that you send all your documents and payments by express mail or con (not USPS).
